HBO is kicking off 2016 with an intense rock and roll drama series "Vinyl" produced by Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger.

According to Rolling Stone, the series will explore the insanity behind the head-banging genre. The show reveals how sex, drugs, booze, and violence reign in the music industry.

Bobby Cannavale plays the role of Richie Finestra, the president of American Century Records, a label looking for resurgence.

Cannavale delivered the most memorable line in the trailer that practically summarizes the entire series. He said, "That's rock and roll: it's fast; it's dirty; it smashes you over the head."

Since it's a Scorsese-produced series, the presence of Mafia characters is expected. Bo Dietl plays the role of Joe Corso, an independent promoter probably tied to an organized crime group.

There's also Armen Garo who plays the role of Corrado Galasso, the mob boss of New York City. His right-hand man is Tony Del Greco played by Robert Funaro.

It has taken years for Scorsese and Jagger to develop this series with HBO. In August, it was given the go signal to begin production.

The Verge reported that Terence Winter of "Boardwalk Empire" and "The Sopranos" will be the showrunner of the series. The pilot episode will be directed by Scorsese and written by Winter.

HBO's epic rock odyssey also boasts of an impressive cast with Olivia Wilde playing the role of Devon, Finestra's wife. There's Ray Romano playing the role of Zak Yankovich, American Century Records' head of promotions.

James Jagger, son of Mick, will also appear in the show as Kip Stevens, the frontman of budding punk band Nasty Bits. Birgitte Sørensen, who became famous for her role in "Pitch Perfect 2," plays the role of Ingrid, a Danish actress and Andy Warhol's muse.

Max Casella, Juno Temple, P.J. Byrne, J.C. MacKenzie, and Jack Quaid play supporting roles as part of the label staff.
