CBS just confirmed that "Zoo" has been renewed for a second season. The renewal did not come as a surprise given that it was one of the top rated shows, even nabbing the no.1 spot as the most watched summer series of 2015. It reportedly drew in more than 8 million viewers in June.
According to Cinemablend, when "Zoo" first aired its premiere episode, it earned multiple negative feedback from both critics and viewers. Surprisingly, most viewers gave the show a second change and stuck with it until the season finale. After looking at the numbers, CBS thought that the series deserved a second chance.
The publication pointed out that CBS's summer line up mostly consisted of series with a science fiction based theme including "Under the Dome" and "Extant." Unfortunately, the network has pulled the plug on the former due to its low ratings. The Halle Berry headlined show on the other hand is still awaiting renewal.
"Under the Dome" will be replaced by "BrainDead," a show about aliens slated to premiere in 2016.
In other news, Bustle previously reported that PETA called for "Zoo's" cancellation after it has been confirmed that the show used real animals. The organization hoped that it "would be one of this summer's first cancellations."
The showrunners, however, explained that the "care, safety, and overall well-being
of the animals is their utmost priority. They also vowed to never do anything that would put the animals in danger.
"Zoo" is based on the best selling novel by James Patterson of the same name. It follows the story of Jackson Oz (James Wolk) and his team as they try to solve the mystery behind the vicious attack of animals against humans across the world.
