Roku, a new device that presents videos in 4K resolution and battles Amazon's new Fire TV device, was unveiled on Oct. 6.
The new device will now make it easier to stream movies, TV shows, news, sports and much more on TV. It enhances streaming by offering access to more than a thousand apps and a broader selection than what rivals such as Fire TV, Google's Chrome Cast, Apple TV and Android TV devices offer.
Roku is also focusing on making the process of finding 4K streams easier, with a curated 4K Spotlight channel that will only be available when you own the Roku 4.
According to Mercury News, the new Roku device is expected to be shipped by the end of October and it will cost $130. Besides the 4K resolution, the new model will also have another feature that enables a user to locate a lost remote by signaling the remote so that it makes a sound.
The new device comes at a time when all Roku devices are receiving new software that offers more ways to get alerts when movies and shows become available for streaming or have price reductions, ABC News reported. Also, a new feature promises to make it easier to connect in dorms, hotels and other public settings with complex sign-in procedures for Wi-Fi.
Meanwhile, Google will launch similar second-generation device with all the new designs, a HDMI cable is looped inside a circular Chrome Cast logo-shaped unit. Also, the internal components of the device are upgraded to make the new devices more capable.
Despite the launch of the new Roku device, the older Roku models are still sold for $50.
