Zhang Lei has been declared the winner of the fourth season of the popular TV singing competition "The Voice of China" on Wednesday, Oct. 7.

Zhang won the title under the guidance of his coach Na Ying, a popular singer in mainland China known for having sold more than 10 million albums and being awarded Favorite Female Artist in mainland China for three years in a row from 2002 to 2004.

Zhang is Na Ying's third pupil to have won the competition.

Zhang beat four other finalists, namely, Zhang Zitong and Leon Lee, under the mentorship of Jay Chou; Bei Bei, under the mentorship of Wang Feng; and Tan Xuanyuan, under the mentorship of Harlem Yu.

The finals of the talent show were held at the National Stadium in Beijing.

The finals of the competition started with a round wherein the contestants sang duets with their coaches. This was followed by a round where the five of them sang on stage individually.

After those two rounds, the jury and the audience scored the five contestants, eliminating the bottom three. This left Zhang Lei and Zhang Zitong to compete for the season's title.

Zhang Lei and Zhang Zitong then sang one last song that would, via voting, decide who would win the competition overall.

All of Zhang Zitong's performances were of songs her coach Jay Chou had written, including "Extra Large Shoes," "Actress Versed in Swordplay" and "Black Humor."

On the other hand, Zhang Lei sang a diverse mix, including his coach Na Ying's "A Dream," Xu Wei's "Travel" and a ballad entitled "Nan Shan Nan."

The show ended with Zhang Lei winning after receiving 58.53 percent of the vote.
