VICTORIA - Victoria Police identified the suspected terrorist, who stabbed two police officers last Tuesday night at the Endeavour Hills Police Station car park, as 18-year old Abdul Numan Haider.
Naider, the youngest among his siblings, was described by his friends as innocent and not a terrorist.
One of his friends, Mastoora Jan, posted on Facebook about Naider's innocence and how Naider sympathized to innocent Muslims being tortured mercilessly.
'Not alone'
Police authorities are open to the possibility that Haider was not alone when the fatal attack occurred.
According to Victoria Chief Commissioner Ken Lay, Haider was maybe in a company before he attacked an Australian Federal Police Officer and a Victoria Police Officer on what was supposed to be a car meeting.
"There is some information that he was certainly talking to other people around the time that he came to the police station," Lay said.
Police investigators are now pursuing the case and are interviewing possible witnesses who can testify that Haider was indeed with a group before he attacked the police officers with two knives.
Based on initial investigation results, Haider's plan to kill the police officers was premeditated.
Lay, however, dismissed speculations that Haider intended to behead the police officers.
He added that Naider conducted a criminal act and it was not related to any religion or faith.
Naider's burial
At about 10 o'clock last night, Naider's family claimed his body for eventual burial.
Burial is expected on Friday and family members from overseas are set to attend.
The Haider's family is originally from Afghanistan before they migrated to Australia.
Naider's eldest brother, aged 23, is currently taking engineering course while his other 20-year old brother is taking-up pharmacy course.
Naider was killed last Tuesday after he attacked two police officers. He carried with him an Islamic State flag.
