Peng Damo and Yan Fei’s “Goodbye Mr. Loser,” released only on Sept. 30, has already grossed more than $100 million.

As of Oct. 11, the comedy film starring 35-year-old Shen Teng earned a cool $135 million, according to the estimates of U.S.-based global media measurement and research company, Rentrak.

A film adaptation of a stage play of the same title, the film was produced by Mahua FunAge Production. Founded in 2003, the Beijing-based company produces stage shows, and “Goodbye Mr. Loser” is one of its hits.

Mahua FunAge basically casts stage actors, namely, Ai Lun, Chang Yuan, Lee Li-chun, Li Ping, Ma Li, Song Yang, Tian Yu, Wang Zhi, Yin Zheng and Zhang Yiming.

These stage actors, nevertheless, are effective in making people laugh. They have honed their skills in performing hilarious comedy acts from several live performances, according to China Daily.

“Goodbye Mr. Loser” marks the film debuts of directors Peng and Yan. The lead actors likewise savor their first experience of performing in front of the cameras.

Shen appeared in different episodes of CCTV New Year's Gala. Ma Li shares a lead role with him in the film.

“Goodbye Mr. Loser” narrates the story of a guy who got drunk one day, fell asleep, then found himself back in high school--in a dream.

The movie hit American cinemas on Oct. 9. It earned some $350,000 on its opening weekend, according to Internet Movie Database (IMDb).

It is a good start for Mahua FunAge, who proves that box-office success can be gained not only by gathering popular faces but also through casting a bunch of talented and skilled actors.
