Marvel's forthcoming film "Black Panther" may have found its director.

"Selma" director Ava DuVernay was reported to helm "Black Panther," but she eventually passed the film. "Dope" film helmer Rick Famuyiwa was also eyed by Marvel Studios as the film's director, but no further action pushed through. "Straight Outta Compton" director F. Gary Gray also became a contender, but he decided to helm "Furious 8" instead.

Earlier reports said that Marvel Studios would wait for a script for "Black Panther" prior to hiring a director, but this revelation suggests that the aforementioned reports were false. Coogler is currently on the director's chair for the forthcoming sports drama film "Creed," which stars Sylvester Stallone and Michael B. Jordan. According to Cinema Blend, the film had been getting a big deal of talks from the public.

Meanwhile, Chadwick Boseman is set to play the iconic web-slinger in the solo "Black Panther" film. But prior to that, he will debut the character in Marvel's Cinematic Universe in Joe Russo and Anthony Russo's forthcoming Marvel Comics film "Captain America: Civil War," which centers on the release of the Accords. It is released by the government to limit superheroes from using their powers.

Black Panther is set to team up with Iron Man's team, which includes Black Widow, War Machine, and The Vision. They are against Captain America's team, which includes Hawkeye, Falcon, Agent 13, and Ant-Man. Spider-Man is also set to appear in the film; however, no information yet as to which side he is in.

Aside from Boseman, "Black Panther" also stars "Avengers: Age of Ultron" actor Andy Serkis. While  Marvel Studios Head Kevin Feige is set to produce the film.

"Black Panther" is slated to premiere in theaters in the United States on July 28, 2017 while Coogler's "Creed" is set to premiere in theaters on Nov. 25. Meanwhile, the Russos' "Captain America: Civil War" hits theaters on May 6, 2016.
