A famous fan theory about Disney's classic tale "Aladdin" is actually true, according to directors Ron Clements and John Musker.

Clements and Musker were the directors of the "1992" animated Disney film "Aladdin." In their interview with Entertainment Online to debunk fan theories following the new Blu-ray release of the animated film, Clements said that the speculation that the peddler at the start of Aladdin was the genie was true.

According to Clements, that angle was part of the initial plan for the film, along with the sequence in which the peddler would have revealed himself as the magical Genie. However, story changes and the editing process had lost the revelation at the conclusion of the film.

For a long time, the idea that the peddler and the Genie as one and the same character had been regarded as a rumor, according to Cinema Blend. It could be possible because both characters were voiced by the late Robin Williams.

The Genie is one of the most iconic and prominent characters in Disney's films. Along with Williams, in Clements and Musker's 1992 animated "Aladdin" film starred the voices of Frank Welker as Abu and the Rajah, Jonathan Freeman as Jafar, Linda Larkin as Jasmine, and Scott Weinger as Aladdin.

Aladdin's Genie was initially as slave, who has extraordinary celestial abilities. Destined to a small lamp, he can only use his powers when his master, the lamp's owner, makes a wish.  At the moment, "Genies" will focus on the land of the Genies and will unfold the story of how Aladdin's Genie got confined in the lamp.

Disney reportedly plots "Genies" as a stepping stone into a live-action "Aladdin" film. While the project is in its early phase of development, exact details on the plot, characters, cast, and release date of Disney's "Genies" are to be revealed.
