James Gunn's "Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2" is not set to impact the events in Joe Russo and Anthony Russo's "Avengers: Infinity War."
In his live question and answer session (via his official Facebook page), Gunn said that he was a lot more concerned with "Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2" than he was with "Avengers: Infinity Wars." The director pointed out that his forthcoming film sequel was "a story unto itself" and was not about going to anything else. For the director, "Guardians of the Galaxy" was about the titular intergalactic team and their lives.
According to Cinema Blend, Gunn's statement gives justice to Dave Bautista's recent revelation that "Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2" would be exploring each of the character's background, including Drax's story. The publication added that instilling the story and the characters to the audience's heart and mind was one of the film's challenges. But now it was over, so Gunn could dig deeper into who they are.
"Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2" also stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper (voice), Vin Diesel (voice), Sean Gunn, Karen Gillan, Michael Rooker, and possibly Howard the Duck, among others. Benicio del Toro will also reprise his role as The Collector while the director teased that there would be one Sneeper in the film.
"Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2" is slated to premiere in theaters in United States on May 5, 2017. Meanwhile, the Russos' "Avengers: Infinity War - Part I" is slated to hit theaters on May 4, 2018 while "Avengers: Infinity - Part II" is set to premiere in theaters on May 3, 2019.
