Officials from the Chinese and Cambodian armed forces announced on Tuesday a plan to strengthen exchanges and deepen cooperation between the two militaries, according to the Global Times.
The move is a measure to bolster miliary relations between the two countries, according to Xu Qiliang, vice chairman of China's Central Military Commission, and Pol Saroeun, commander-in-chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces.
The two officials pledged strengthened partnership during a one-hour meeting in Beijing.
"China and Cambodia are good friends sharing weal and woe," said Xu.
"We have worked together since diplomatic ties were forged 56 years ago," the official continued.
Xu pledged China's efforts to continue to nurture bilateral relations through strengthened military relations.
Saroeun, meanwhile, touched upon the loyalty shared by the two countries.
"The friendship between China and Cambodia was built upon mutual trust and support," he said.
The Cambodian military official also said that his country has high regard for its developing ties with China and that he is looking to further strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries, including their armed forces.
Saroeun is heading a Cambodian delegation on a five-day visit to China which began on Sunday.
The delegation includes senior military officials from the Army Headquarters, the Navy, the Air Force and the National Military Police.
