Microsoft has rolled out November updates for its new Surface Book and Surface Pro 4, fixing the screen flickering issue on both devices.
Surface Book received five updates, while the Surface Pro 4 received four. The only difference on the rolled out update is a keyboard and trackpad fix for the Surface Book, while Surface Pro has not received the two features for it firmware. The release also updates a number of drivers for audio, the Surface Pen, and more.
Some owners of the new Surface devices had been complaining that their screens would flicker. The problem is tied to a driver issue when the device was running Hyper-V virtual machines, according to PC World. Even users who installed the latest updates, including Microsoft's October firmware update, said they were seeing the problem.
The November firmware update released for both the Surface Book and Surface Pro 4 states that HD Graphics 520 driver update (v20.19.15.4308) fixes some display issues, including some scenarios that can bring screen flickering issue.
The Display audio driver update (v8.20.0.659) supports compatibility with the updated graphics driver. Surface Embedded Controller Firmware update (v103.855.257.0) improves system stability. Surface Pen Settings driver update (v10.0.302.0) adds support for future functionality for future versions of Windows 10. It also includes updates for the system's overall stability.
If the user has not received these updates yet on their Surface device, they can look for them within the Windows Update section of the Settings app, according to CNET.
Both Surface Book laptop and Surface Pro 4 tablet were both last Oct. 26, giving new owners a week to discover problems that Microsoft was not able to determine. Usually, tech companies like Microsoft spend months testing a new device in-house, but there are problems which only pop up until the device was sold to a lot of customers.
