Online storage service Dropbox recently launched a new service aimed for big companies. The new service called Dropbox Enterprise was unveiled at a user conference held by the company in San Francisco.
The new Dropbox Enterprise is built on the foundation laid by Dropbox Business. According to the company, more than 150,000 institutions are currently using Dropbox Business. The new Enterprise edition of Dropbox will retain the same core features on security, admin management as well as new added capabilities.
Dropbox Enterprise will now feature increased visibility and control when it comes to personal storage use within the company domain. The new feature will also allow company admins to track how their employees use Dropbox in conjunction with external software.
The new Enterprise edition will grant user's unlimited access to the Dropbox API. This new feature will allow companies to integrate their existing computer system with Dropbox, adding access to Dropbox's platform team to provide additional support when it comes to custom integration. Dropbox said that it also plans to integrate a new feature that will help users in deployment and data migration.
When asked about the new direction that the company is taking, Dropbox CEO Drew Houston told Tech Crunch, "Because we've been heads down for most of the year, and we don't talk about ourselves that much, there's been these misconceptions, oh we're just for consumers, we're playing catchup, we're not serious about business."
With this newly launched Enterprise service, Dropbox will be going head-to-head with tech giants like Google and Microsoft. Many tech analysts pointed some similarities between Dropbox Enterprise and Microsoft Delve Organizational Analytics for Office 365, according to CIO.
