According to Cinema Blend, Derrickson's forthcoming "Doctor Strange" would not be an origin story. While the production photos featured Cumberbatch with a ruffled look, it was possible that these scenes would be very brief ones and would be used as a short flashback or montage in relation to the superhero's origin, as per the publication.

The production is filming the early part of Stephen Strange's storyline, as recently noted by Cinema Blend. The publication also mentioned that it could be the point when Strange was looking for a cure for his hands, which suffered nerve damage after an accident, leaving him incapable of practicing surgery.

Derrickson's "Doctor Strange" centers on the exploits of Strange, a neurosurgeon who loses his hands' fine motor skills after an accident. He meets the Ancient One, a master of magic who trains him to become the Sorcerer Supreme and defend the world from evil.

"Doctor Strange" stars Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo, Rachel McAdams as the Night Nurse, Michael Stuhlbarg as Nicodemus West, and Cumberbatch as Marvel's Sorcerer Supreme. "Hannibal" actor Mads Mikkelsen, who was reported to play the role of Mephisto or Dormammu, might not appear in Derrickson's forthcoming film.

Derrickson's "Doctor Strange" is slated to premiere in theaters in the United States on Nov. 4, 2016.
