Further efforts for environmental protection and green development in China will continue to be observed, Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli pledged on Monday.

Zhang made his pledge during the opening ceremony of the yearly conference of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development.

The vice premier said that environment protection is of significant importance for China and that the country has already adopted a sustainable growth strategy.

Zhang said that China will have further reforms and additional innovative measures for environmental protection by letting the Chinese market play a bigger role.

He also said that the country will be moving up its reform in resource pricing and will also broaden the market for green tech and services. The country will also be urging more firms to take action in controlling pollution.

Aside from implementing the newly revised Environment Protection Law, China will also be moving up its legislation efforts on environmental protection, according to Zhang.

China will be stricter in implementing regulations regarding soil, water and air pollution. It will also be specifying a "bottom line" for several local governments in their environmental protection efforts.

According to Zhang, the country will also be urging the public to get involved and oversee the government's efforts regarding environmental protection.

Zhang said that the government will be supporting the further development of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development, which plays a significant role as a platform for exchanges between the country and other nations and regions on green development.
