Sam Mendes' "Spectre" and Steve Martino's "The Peanut Movie" grabbed the top two spots of the box office weekend.
After its release in theaters on Nov. 6, Mendes' James Bond film "Spectre" topped the box office with a domestic gross of $73 million on its opening weekend, as per Box Office Mojo. On the other hand, Martino's Snoopy animated film "The Peanut Movie" grossed $45 million domestically.
"Spectre" centers on the events following the MI6 bombing incident. The members of the cast include Seydoux as Madeleinde Swann, Dave Bautista as Mr. Hinx, Ralph Fiennes as Gareth Mallory, Naomie Harris as Eve Moneypenny, Monica Belluci as Lucia Sciarra, Christopher Waltz as Franz Oberhauser, and Daniel Craig as super spy 007 Bond, among others.
Contrariwise, "The Peanut Movie" follows the iconic beagle Snoopy as he and his friend embark on a huge quest, which is to track their arch-nemesis, while Charlie Brown begins his own mission back home. The stars the voices of Trombone Shorty, Rebecca Bloom, Anastasia Bredikhina, Francesca Capaldi, Kristin Chenoweth, Alexander Garfin, Noah Johnston, Hadley Belle Miller, Noah Schnapp as Brown and Bill Melendez as Snoopy, among others.
Coming at the third spot is Ridley Scott's sci-fi film "The Martian," with a weekend domestic gross of $.9.3 million. It is followed by Rob Letterman's fantasy adventure film "Goosebumps," which had a weekend domestic gross of nearly $7 million. Meanwhile, hitting the fifth spot is Steven Spielberg's thriller film "Bridge of Spies," which got a weekend domestic gross of $6 million.
Tom McCarthy's historical drama "Spotlight" also had a great opening weekend in its small release, according to Cinema Blend. The publication said that the canon got more than $60,000 per venue average for a $300,000 start.
Mendes' "Spectre" and Martino's "The Peanut Movie" are still showing in theaters.
