BlackBerry has reportedly been working on its second android phone name Vienna. Spotting an all-metal design around the iconic BlackBerry QWERTY keypad, this could be the slimmest product from the stable of the world's most high-profile smartphone vendor and set for January release.
Just days ago, BlackBerry CEO John Chen in an interview with Fox Business had confirmed of plans to introduce a range of Android-based products in the future.
News leaks confirm the name of the new smartphone as Vienna with a possible inheritance of the well-adored features of both BlackBerry Passport and BlackBerry Priv. However, the new Android leak looks slim, sleek and with a capacitative, QWETRY keyboard in contrast to a hidden, retractable one on BlackBerry Priv. Not more than 9mm in thickness, it could be the slimmest ever from BlackBerry.
Blackberry launched its first Android smartphone Priv last month signaling resurgent efforts to capture a big share in the smartphone market and turn around its fortunes. The venture was also the first ever effort by the mobile giant to use the Android platform. Encouraged by the success of the $699, 5.4-inch OLED and 18 megapixel camera phone, Blackberry is preparing for its next big Android release in January.
An all-metal body available in five colors, which are black, navy blue, silver, red and dark green, was showcased in the leaked images posted by CrackBerry. The right side on the new android smartphone is dotted with buttons. Vienna may have a mono speaker placed on the frontal part beside the front camera. The memory and SIM slots are on the left.
The new BlackBerry Vienna is expected to have rear camera anywhere between 8 and 13 megapixel. At present, it sports a smaller sensor than BlackBerry Priv. It may possibly have an Android 5.1 Lollipop or 6.0 Marshmallow operating system and the renowned BlackBerry security suite.
Placed in the mid-Android smartphone segment, the cost of BlackBerry Vienna is expected to be less than BlackBerry Priv and may emerge a direct competitor to Samsung's Tizen.
