If Dobrev will get the role, rumors of her regretting her decision to leave "TVD" will finally be put to rest. When the actress failed to get projects after starring in The CW series, insiders claim that Dobrev was slowly losing hope and thought about returning. Working with former boyfriend Ian Somerhalder, however, was the only reason why she decided to stand her ground.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Julie Plec believed that "The Vampire Diaries" will be renewed for another season in spite of Dobrev's departure. The showrunner claimed that there is still a lot of story to tell. She added that fans will get to see a different, darker side of Damon (Somerhalder) now that Elena's (Gilbert) gone.

Plec also revealed that Dobrev has always been open about the possibility of her returning, but only in the series finale. After playing the role for more than six years, Dobrev shared that she wanted her character to be given the proper ending she deserves.
