Sexual cannibalism among animals have been observed in certain species of spiders. However, among humans, it is quite rare.

But the phenomenon, although rarely practiced among humans today, has been observed in a few remote parts of Asia, notes Dr. Mark Griffiths, in an article on Psychology Today. Those who engage in cannibalism for sexual purposes are usually considered sociopaths, or who do it due to unconscious factors such as a response to trauma.

A newlywed Indonesian couple likely falls within that category. The New York Post reports that Lumpung police arrested on Sunday Rudi Effendi and wife Nuriah at their house in Tulang Bawang district that is part of the Indonesian province of Sumatra. Rudi allegedly killed the victim, a driver for a travel agency.

The victim allegedly raped Nuriah one week before their wedding in September. On their honeymoon, when Rudi found that Nuriah was no longer a virgin, she told him of the rape. Lt. Col. Sulistyaningsih spokeswoman of the Lampung police, says that after one month of investigating the murder, they arrested the newlywed.

The couple cut the suspect's genital and ate it, after that, they burned the alleged rapist's body which the police found inside a razed minivan on Oct. 4. Nuriah asked the driver for a meeting then Rudi stabbed the alleged rapist and cut off his manhood. He then fried the organs and the couple ate it as "cure" for his heartache over his wife's sexual attack.

No charges have been filed, but they could eventually be accused of premeditated murder which has a maximum penalty of death sentence.
