Vice President of Microsoft Greater China Zhang Yongli has announced the launch of the new Surface Pro during a press conference in Beijing on Wednesday, as reported by the Global Times.

The new Surface Pro 4 is the upgraded successor of the 12-inch Surface Pro 3. The Surface Pro 4 will be the lightest among its predecessors while remaining powerful, according to Zhang.

"Surface Pro 4 has a 12.3-inch screen, and has a higher display resolution than Surface Pro 3," said Zhang.

The new tablet has already been available in the United States since Oct. 26.

The press conference was attended by hundreds of fans and industry analysts that compared the Surface Pro 4 with other products in the Surface Pro line.

"The touch screen responds smoothly to my finger strokes and the Surface Pen's tip is very sensitive and allows me to draw very naturally," said Qiu Haowei, a Shenzhen-based independent fashion designer, during the conference.

The newly launched tablet is designed to give the user an improved drawing experience compared to the Surface Pro 3.

"The Surface Pen with the Surface Pro 4 version enables its users to work with different tips with multi-point sensitivity," said a Microsoft staff member, who preferred to remain anonymous, in a statement to the Global Times.

While the Surface Pro 3 only has 256 levels of pressure sensitivity, the Surface Pro 4 has 1,024 levels with low latency, according to Microsoft's website.

Users may also use the Surface Pen Tip Kit, which allows them to choose different tips for sketching.

The Surface Pro 4 also has an upgraded camera and keyboard.

On Thursday, the Surface Pro 4 went on sale in China for 6,688 yuan ($1,047).
