Kevin Durant's free agency has already been buzzing around the league as early as this season. The Washington Wizards and the Oklahoma City Thunder are the favorite to land the two-time scoring champion, but according to a report, the Golden State Warriors could be the one acquiring Durant before the trade deadline.
ESPN's Amin Elhassan discussed how the Warriors could land Durant this offseason, but the defending champs may not have to wait until next year before they can get their hands at the former-MVP.
The report disclosed that the Harrison Barnes and Festus Ezeli could be the pieces involved for the Warriors to get Durant.
Golden State did not extend the contracts of both Barnes and Ezeli, which gives the team "flexibility" to work around the two players and orchestrate a "sign-and-trade" for Durant.
The Warriors truly has a legitimate chance to obtain Durant, but it may arrive next year when the free agency market opens.
It is hard to imagine the defending champs will break their core roster, especially now that they are on a hot start with 13 wins and zero losses.
Durant has also stated his family-like ties to his partner in crime Russell Westbrook when he was inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame, reports News OK.
Moreover, it would be hard to create a package involving just Barnes and Ezeli, considering the amount of their salary over Durant's massive contract.
While the Warriors may have the cap space needed next season to lure another superstar, it is more realistic that the Warriors would stick to the players who have already formed chemistry with other players in the roster.
There is no legit confirmation yet about a trade for Durant, but pairing one of the most talented young players to the reigning MVP Stephen Curry can only guarantee a long-lasting dynasty coupled with championship banners.
