According to Touch Arcade, the first new addition to the "Clash of Clans" shields is known as the Village Guard. It gets considered as a short-term defense and for interested "Clash of Clans" enthusiasts, here is how it works (courtesy of Supercell Forum post):

1.      When the Village Guard is active, the gamer's village acts as if they are online, even when they close the games and get disconnected.

2.      Players can exploit Village Guard and attack without penalty. Free Village Guard time automatically activates as soon as shields expire and that is, between 25 minutes and 2 hours based on the League.

3.      10 gems can buy 2 hours of extra village guard on a daily basis in the shop when the player's shield is down (23-hour cooldown).

4.      A player can dismiss Active Village guard at any time.

5.      If a Player at any instance buys Village Guard from the shop, then their Active Guard is dismissed automatically.

From the looks of things, Village Guard will add a little wiggle room to gamers shielding in "Clash of Clans." From now henceforth, things will not go pear-shaped when a player unintentionally disconnects, Supercell Forums reported.

With "Clash of Clans" Town Hall 11, players will be required to take breaks now and again, which will dismiss them long enough to allow attackers to do some damage. Technically, after every three hours of Village Guard time, players will have to take a six minutes break offline.
