Time has apparently healed the wounds on the relatioship of top golfer Tiger Woods and former wife Elin Nordegren caused by his extramarital affair with Rachel Uchitel.

Six years after the cheating scandal that almost destroyed his golfing career and damaged his personal life, the 39-year-old professional golfer now says Elin is one of his best friends. He describes their current relationship as fantastic even if they are no longer a couple. Woods says that they call each other and talk on the phone frequently.

Their focus now is on their two children - daughter Sam and son Charlie - whom they consider the most important thing in their lives. He confesses, "I wish I would have known that back then," quotes Time Magazine. Elin concedes that Tiger is a great father to their kids now.

Woods had explained to their children that the reason why their parents are divorced is because of mistakes he has done in the past. He did it ahead of the two reading about the scandal on the internet or being told by their friends when they grow older. "When they come of age, I'll just tell them the real story," he adds.

Looking back at what happened to his career and marriage, Woods says, "It's now how I would change 2009 and how it all came about. It would be having a more open, honest relationship with my ex-wife."

After the affair, Woods had difficulty restarting his career, failing to add another major title to his record 14 tournament championships which is second to Jack Nicklaus' 18 titles. As he turns 40 by Dec. 30, his chances of adding more titles become slimmer as age creeps in, reports Time.
