A Motorola software engineer, Luciano Carvalho, have posted in his +Google an assurance to update the 2013 to 2014 Android smartphones to Lollipop really soon.

"Updates of this nature take time. It's no secret that when 5.0 launched it still had bugs. And, when we update our products, we end up finding more bugs that need to be fixed. There are a lot of reasons for what that happen, but, basically, each phone has a unique set of components and a way they interact," Carvalho wrote.

The Motorola software engineer explained that when Google creates a new release, they neither validate it for all the possible combinations there are nor fix anything that is not reproducible on a Nexus device because that is Motorola's job.

The struggling attempt to upgrade by Motorola to Lollipop has reportedly not been a smooth ride. The mobile company's efforts to upgrade the second generation Moto X Pure Edition has been initiated. However, Motorola found out that it was filled with bugs.

The mobile company's Moto X (2nd Gen) Pure Edition did get a Lollipop update, but it did not actually succeed. There are bugs and errors that need further fixes so Motorola had to halt.

Since Google does not accept bug fixing on non-Nexus devices, it now remains in the hands of the company's OEM to come up with a resolution to test builds in-house. This will take a lot of time and effort, according to Carvalho.

Carvalho also added that some of their users might already be getting 5.0.2 OTA updates. These are limited and still in beta testing type of updates however, and not yet widespread. Nevertheless, he advised the Moto users of the first generation products should keep their apps updated via Google play store.
