Cyber Caliphate, a group that claims to be under ISIS, hacked the @CENTCOM Twitter and YouTube accounts of the U.S. Central Command on Monday.
The hacked Twitter account posted pro-ISIS statements and leaked allegedly classified files from the U.S. military.
"AMERICAN SOLDIERS WE ARE COMING, WATCH YOUR BACK. ISIS. #CyberCaliphate," Cyber Calpihate posted on Twitter using the U.S. Central Command's Twitter account. Its YouTube account posted ISIS propaganda videos.
Additional tweets from Cyber Caliphate included images that showed the contact information of several retired U.S. army officials and alleged plans of the U.S. military taken from the Pentagon network. Cyber Caliphate also posted links for the allegedly-classified files.
According to NBC News, the FBI is already conducting an investigation in collaboration with the Department of Defense for the Twitter and YouTube account hacks.
The YouTube and Twitter accounts that were hacked by Cyber Caliphate are not classified, according to a statement of government officials to NBC News. It also clarified that some of the alleged military plans came from MIT.
One official from the Department of Defense told NBC News that the social media breach was "embarrassing," but is not to be considered a "security threat."
Tech Crunch reports that both of the social media accounts have been shut down.
Before the recent Twitter breach, which is the highest attributed attack for the group, Cyber Caliphate also targeted Twitter accounts of known news outlets, including Fox from Maryland, CBS and the Albuquerque Journal, SC Magazine reported. The terror group claimed that they have "hacked FBI databases."
