The Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee urged for the strengthening of ideological and political education among its 88 million members, based on a document on Party school work released on Sunday, Dec. 13, the Xinhua News Agency reported.

According to the report, the document was adopted at a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee on Nov. 23. The document, called the Party schools' work, forms an important part of the CPC's work and the schools play a vital role in improving the Party's ruling capacity.

"To realize the goal of building a moderately prosperous society and the Chinese dream of great national rejuvenation, the key is to mould a troop of officials that are as strong as iron in belief, faith, discipline and sense of responsibility," President Xi Jinping, also general-secretary of the CPC Central Committee, said at a two-day meeting on Party schools' work, which closed on Saturday, Dec.12.

An official with the Party School of the CPC Central Committee said that the CPC's governance is going through extraordinary challenges amid fast-changing international situation and an arduous task of implementing reforms at home.

The Party schools have the responsibility of "supplementing calcium and strengthening bones" for Party officials, adding that the work of Party schools should be strengthened, rather than weakened.

The document also reminded the Party schools to adhere to the "right political direction," strictly observe the Party's political discipline, rules and regulations, and conform with the CPC Central Committee in ideology and action, to a high degree.

The Party schools should be consistent with the CPC belief, and all teaching and research work must be conducted based on decisions and arrangements of the CPC Central Committee, the document stressed.

"It is the first time for the CPC to put forward clearly the Party schools' fundamental principle in the document," said the official. "The move is aimed at warning Party schools not to swerve from the right direction."

The Party schools should strengthen the education of officials on the CPC's theories, particularly on the latest achievements in adapting Marxism to Chinese conditions, the documents said.

Through studying Marxism in contemporary China, Party officials can enhance their faith in the country's development path and the CPC's theories and learn to link theories with practice.

The document also specified courses on the Party's theories, history, ideals and beliefs.

Moreover, the document stressed that officials must give special attention to studying the Party constitution as well as its regulations and disciplines in the work of Party schools at all levels.

Courses provided by Party schools on the Party constitution and other rules and regulations only account for 2.5 percent of the total class hours, according to a survey conducted by the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection (CCDI).

As think tank for both government and the CPC, Party schools should push forward generalization and innovation in theories in the new era, and deepen research on the country's major decisions and plans as well as pressing social issues, the documents pointed out.

Senior CPC leaders were also urged to give lectures to Party school students, as well as leaders at the levels of province, city and county as required.

As president of the Party School of the CPC Central Committee from 2007 to 2012, Xi gave Party school students lessons for 19 times.
