Following the announcement of the Moto 360 Second Generation smartwatch earlier this year, Google also confirmed that a Sport model which focuses more on sports and fitness activities will subsequently follow. Recently, the tech giant announced that the Second Generation Moto 360 Sport will be released in the United States on Jan. 7, 2016.
The Moto 360 Sport is Google's first smartwatch that focuses on fitness rather than customization. While the Moto 360 is still a popular smartwatch, its appeal did not cross to people who wants a smart wearable device that they can take with them to the gym or while exercising.
In terms of aesthetics, the Moto 360 Sport looks almost the same to its predecessor. It shares the same screen size, design and hardware specs with the Moto 360. However, Google did made some minor but important changes to the Sport model.
The Moto 360 Sport has two key features that is not available with the Moto 360. First is the built-GPS sensor. The sensor allows users to use the watch and its features without being tethered or connected to a smartphone. The Moto 360 Sport can be used while hiking or on the gym without the need to connect it to a smartphone. Even if the smartwatch is not connected to a smartphone, it can still perform its basic functions like tracking heart rate, steps and count calories.
The second feature is called the Anytime Display. This allows the Moto 360 Sport to maintain its vibrant display when used outdoors, especially under direct sunlight, according to ZDNet. The smartwatch is able to achieve this by integrating a new hybrid display technology.
The Moto 360 Sport has a 1.37-inch display screen. It is powered by a quad-core 1.2-GHz processor with 512MB of internal memory and 4GB of storage space. The 300mAh battery can last for a full day on a single charge and its sweat-proof band made of silicone ensures comfort and durability, according to GottaBeMobile.
Once it hits the market, the Moto 360 Sport will cost $299.
