"Once Upon a Time" (OUAT) Season 5 continues to be on a break and will not be returning to television until March 2016. Fans can expect to see a special episode opening Season 5B. The midseason premiere is going to mark a huge milestone in "Once Upon a Time" (OUAT) history. Episode 12 "Souls of the Departed" is the 100th episode of the series and it is expected to see the return of some old characters and debut of some new ones.
In the midseason premiere, Emma and other Storybrooke heroes will be heading to the Underworld. It is expected that the remaining 11 episodes will revolve around the Underworld. While the storyline for the midseason premiere remains unknown, fans can expect to see Emma continue her quest for bringing Captain Hook back from the Underworld.
In the interview with The Hollywood Reporter, "Once Upon a Time" (OUAT) showrunner Adam Horowitz revealed that the Underworld "place for people with unfinished business, so it's not about good or evil." As explained by co-creator Eddy Kitsis, Season 5B will delve deeper into fan-favourite characters.
"The second half is a lot about them getting closure on their pasts and how the past comes to haunt you," Kitsis said.
Hercules, Meg and Hades are some of the new characters joining the army of Storybrooke heroes in 100th episode. At the same time, a lot of people from the past will reappear. Peter Pan, Prince Arthur, Cora, Blind Witch, Sidney Glass, Merida, Guinevere will be making a return in Episode 12 of Season 5. Cartermatt confirms that Victoria Smurfit, Barbara Hershey and Robbie Kay will also return.
In addition, "Chicago Fire" actress Teri Reeves has been added as a cast member. She will be playing the role of "brave warrior for good" Dorothy Gale, according to TV Line.
