Windows 10 Mobile's scheduled launch in December has been cancelled, much to the dismay of Windows Phone users who have to wait every year for a new name for the operating system with very few apps and ranks only on the third spot. The upgrade is rolling out instead next year to some current Windows 8.1 and Windows 8 phones. This was confirmed by a spokesperson from Microsoft.

Initial Windows 10 Mobile handsets like Lumia 950 XL and Lumia 950 were released last November, however, the handsets did not create much excitement. In addition, Microsoft controlled the carrier availability which made it impossible to the new handsets to obtain the highest sales potential.

If only Microsoft was able to release the Windows 10 Mobile update for some current Windows Phone handsets, it might have used this as alibi that there was no really no delay. It will be remembered that the Windows 10 for the PC's has been released in July, and a December release would mean a gap of five months already, The Star reported.

But Microsoft is not anymore offering a one-month commitment. They are offering an "early next year" commitment which means the first quarter of 2016. The first quarter would mean from January to March. This also means 6 to 8 months following the release of Windows 10 for PC. But the rolling out will only be on a few handsets, while a lot of Windows Phone users are going to wait for this update.

Windows Mobile 10 upgrade is definitely coming to the Lumia 950 XL and Lumia 950 users in spite of the bad reviews for both handsets, Venture Beat reported.
