China leads all countries in the world as the top user of renewable energy because of the country's increasing switch to clean energy resources, as mentioned by a senior official on Jan. 17, Saturday.
The renewable energy generation capacity of the country ranged at 430 million kilowatts at the end of 2014, which accounted for 32 percent of China's total power capacity, Shi Lishan, the deputy director general of New and Renewable Energy Department of the National Energy Administration, said.
Shi revealed the information during the fifth session of the International Renewable Energy Agency Assembly held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
According to Shi, the country's renewable power generation was 1.2 trillion kilowatt-hours in 2014, which was reported to make up for the 22 percent of China's overall power consumption the previous year.
The country became a member of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) in Jan. 2013. It serves as a milestone of global efforts to increase the share of renewable energy worldwide by 2030.
Shi mentioned that China will be strengthening its communications on projects and technology in the area of renewable energy establishments with IRENA members from other countries and regions.
"China will also make efforts to support underdeveloped countries' renewable energy development," said Shi.
China's renewable power generation costs, with the inclusion of solar and wind energies, have reduced considerably. This development will aid the country in improving its energy structure in the long run, said Adnan Amin, the director-general of IRENA.
