Car lovers and enthusiasts alike are heading into the Cobo Center in Detroit for the public opening of the annual North American International Auto Show. Although the auto show officially starts on Jan. 12, the show organizers only publicly opens it from Jan. 17 - 25.

This year's event showcases more than 750 cars from various auto manufacturers around the globe. However, there are few cars that manages to caught many of the attendees' attention, most notable of these cars is the 600 horsepower Ford GT and Acura's newest hybrid super car NSX. Prominent car makers like the Cadillac, Mercedes, Lexus and Porsche also has their own booth presenting their newest models.

More than 110,000 people swarmed the Corbo Center in hopes of seeing the newest car models and concept cars on display, Detroit News reported.The first day of the auto show also sets the record in terms of attendance in the last six years.

Chairman of the 2015 North American International Auto Show, Scott LaRichie said, in an interview with the local media outlet, "The industry's in a good place and so is our show. You can feel the energy and positive vibe on the show floor - everyone's happy and Detroit's looking good."

Among the most sought after cars on display are the 2015 Alfa Romeo 4C Spider and  2016 Toyota Tacoma along several cars debuting their release in the North American market which includes the 2016 Jaguar XE and the 2016 Hyundai Sonata.

The show has also awarded the Car and Truck of the Year Awarded. The Volkswagen AG Golf won the North American Car of the Year, the company's first win after 16 years, Bloomberg reported.  

The North American Truck of the Year Award was given to Ford F-150. This is the fourth time the F-150 has won the award.
