The United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently announced that it is adding four new car models into the list of cars installed with defective Takata. The latest car models to be added on the recall list are Honda CR-V, Mazda 6S, Subaru Outback and Subaru Legacy.
The latest addition to the list are part of the ongoing recall order that dominated the motoring world since 2014. The recall involves at least 23 million air bag inflators in more than 19 million car units manufactured by 11 car makers, according to USA Today.
The latest list includes Mazda6 with models years 2005 to 2008. For the Honda CR-V, it includes model years 2002 to 2004. For the Subaru Legacy, it includes model years 2005 to 2008. For the Subaru Outback, it includes model years 2005 to 2008.
The new car models added into the recall list all contain defective passenger side airbags. This is the first time the Subaru Legacy and Subaru Outback were added into the recall list. For the Mazda6 and the Honda CR-V, other models were already part of previous recall orders.
According to Car and Driver, at least 127,000 Honda CR-Vs are being recalled in order to replace the defective airbags. A small number of Honda CR-V 2016 models were also recalled in November.
Following Honda's recent recall announcement, auto manufacturers like Ford, Mazda, Nissan and Toyota all confirmed that they will drop Takata as their main airbag supplier. On the other hand, Takata agreed to pay $70 million to cover civil penalty and the company will undergo constant monitoring from U.S. safety regulators.
