The critically acclaimed video game "The Banner Saga" was rescued by Sony from being completely shelved and forgotten. "The Banner Saga" developer, Stoic Studio, was hit by serious financial problems and is unable to finish the PlayStation Vita version of the game, that is why Sony has to step in and offer financial assitance.
Stoic Studio has publicly announced, on several occasions, their intention to port "The Banner Saga" to the handheld PlayStation Vita console. However, due to subsequent financial crisis faced by the developer, the game was stuck in development hell and rumors even claim that the game was finally shelved by the developer.
"The Banner Saga" has a strong cult following, making it a serious investment for willing companies who have enough cash to salvage the project. Sony has partnered with Versus Evil in developing the PlayStation Vita version of the game. The two companies will provide financial assistance to Stoic Studio in order to finish porting the game. According to World Tech Today, Sony and Versus Evil will share the future profits of the game along with Stoic.
The news that "The Banner Sage" project is being revived came in as a surprise for fans of the game who have lost hope in the game's eventual PlayStation Vita release. The news also invigorate the already waning handheld console industry which is already losing traction in the past few years, according to Engadget.
Sony executive producer Gio Corsi confirmed in a tweet that "The Banner Saga" will be released sometime in 2016.
