Chinese netizens are increasingly excited for the upcoming holidays, as around 80 percent plan to travel during this period. This statistic is generated from a national survey that asked 1,300 netizens across 30 Chinese cities to share how they would spend the Spring Festival break.

Based on the survey facilitated by CTrip.com, a popular Chinese travel agency, majority of Chinese would be on the road during the festive season.

Among those who answered they would use the break as an opportunity to travel, 40 percent said that they plan to go to an international destination. Around 37 percent said that they are traveling within the country.

Chinese citizens traveling overseas mostly set their sights on Thailand, Bali and the Maldives. Those who are traveling domestically mostly plan to enjoy in the tropical Chinese resort city Sanya, Yunnan and Xiamen.

These travelers are not similar to those of previous years anymore. Most of them used several online booking sites to prepare their itineraries as well as smartphone apps to help them with their travel plans.

Fewer Chinese are also traveling with tourist groups. The top consideration among these Chinese travelers is price. Around 30 percent said that they are willing to spend 3,000 to 5,000 yuan for their travel plans this break. Only 12 percent of them are willing to go beyond 8,000 yuan.

"The barriers [of] traveling overseas are lowered, and domestic traveling has been largely facilitated by high-speed trains and self-driving. Online technology serving tourists and fiercer competition in the market altogether contribute to increase people's willingness to travel during holidays," the report reads.
