Startup company BoomCloud 360 has launched its BoomStick device, which boosts the audio quality of cheap wired earbuds and headphones. The portable device increases the sound quality of stock headphones produced by companies such as Apple and Samsung. BoomStick plugs into a mobile device's headphone jack, and does not simply amplify the headset's tunes, but actually makes them sound better.

The new device improves audio quality in several ways. Users can hear "new" instruments, and sounds seem to come from all directions, according to CNN.

BoomCloud 360's website includes a demo for people who want to hear how the portable device improves the sound of their favorite songs, according to Tech Crunch. They can hear firsthand how the company's tech improves sound quality.

The device's design is mostly inconspicuous. A "boom" button on the top of the gadget makes it easy to turn the unit's tech on and off.

Another key feature of BoomStick is that its battery can be juiced up for 14 hours on a single charge. It basically provides an entire day of high-quality music listening.

BoomCloud 360's co-founder George Appling told Tech Crunch that the world needed a "sound renaissance." He explained that while TV now provides high-tech 4K resolution, his company's research shows that just 4 percent of consumers believe their earphones and headphones are providing a top-notch audio experience.

One technical issue is the headphone jack that has a problem shared by the first iPhone model. The 3.5 millimeter port prevents the use of headphones with thicker cables, thus requiring a second adapter.

Meanwhile, a potential problem in terms of BoomStick sales is its $99 price tag. It is a somewhat expensive alternative to upgrading to a high quality pair of headphones.
