The New York Knicks continue their search for the point guard that will lead head coach Derek Fisher's triangle offense and Houston Rockets' floor general Ty Lawson is reportedly emerging as one of the potential candidates for the spot.

Veteran floor general Jose Calderon is the current starter for the Knicks at the position and the 34-year-old is doing a decent job at it, dishing out 3.8 assists per game and shooting 41.6 percent from three-point range.

Calderon's main backup is rookie Jerian Grant, whose playing time has significantly declined since Arron Afflalo entered the rotation.

The Knicks are still struggling to excel, though, currently settling at the 12th spot in the Eastern Conference with a 16-19 record and the point guard spot is highlighted as the position that needs much improvement.

Knicks president Phil Jackson is said to be keen on finding a successor for Calderon, who is already in the wrong side of 30 and will eventually have to decrease playing time as well, as per the New York Daily News.

Meanwhile, Houston is reportedly trying to trade the 28-year-old Lawson this midseason, but the market for the former NCAA champion is not that big at the moment.

An article by Fansided's Colby Giacubeno presented five possible trade scenarios involving Lawson and one of them is a deal with the Knicks, swapping Lawson for Calderon in an exchange of point guards.

New York would seem to agree to this deal in a heartbeat, but it is uncertain whether Houston will ask for more as Calderon is noticeably aging and could be serviceable for a limited time only.

Lawson with Carmelo Anthony, Kristaps Porzingis, Robin Lopez, and Afflalo in the starting lineup would definitely give shivers to opposing defenses and could be the key to making the Knicks a certified playoff contending team.
