Samsung is yet to announce it next phablet, Galaxy Note 6/7, but rumors are rife about Samsung Galaxy S8. Latest reports suggest that the 2017 flagship smartphone will release with a high-resolution display.
The South Korean tech giant has been producing devices with quad HD displays for several years now. However, this is prone to change as the company seeks to implement a 4K Ultra HD or the 3840 by 2160 resolution Super AMOLED display for its future devices, according to Korea Herald, which cited a research note from a UBI Research analyst.
The manufacturer displayed a 5.5-inch 4K Ultra HD display with 806ppi density during the Display Week Conference in San Francisco in May, according to Sammobile. It is believed that such a display would be suitable for the next generation Samsung smartphones, particularly to support the company's push for differentiation in the market.
According to a statement from a UBI Research official, based on a wide range of factors including the production rate for the upcoming display expected to increase in the coming months, the 5.5-inch AMOLED display will be used in the next Samsung Galaxy S8 smartphone. Specialists noted that such a high-resolution display could align with the latest push for smartphones to be appropriate for virtual reality apps.
The search engine giant, Google, unveiled its VR initiative referred to as Daydream at Google I/O in May. The company stated that Samsung is on the forefront to produce high-spec "Daydream ready" devices by the end of this year.
Possibilities are that smartphones released in 2017 and beyond will come with similar or even better features. However, the search engine giant has stated exactly what Daydream ready specifications are. Presumably, Android N OS is among such specs.
Samsung's current spring iteration is the Galaxy S7, and therefore, it is possible that the next flagship will be the Galaxy S8. Little information is known about the company's plans for devices in future.
There are rumors that Samsung will announce more than one smartphone with a foldable display come Mobile World Congress in 2017. Fans anticipate seeing an iris scanner, 6 GB of RAM, and USB Type-C in the rumored Galaxy S8.
