Sony Xperia X and Samsung Galaxy S7 are the freshest faces from two mobile tech giants, Sony and Samsung. Both released during the first quarter of 2016, which among these two premium devices is worth having? Let's know in this face-to-face match.
Launched at Mobile World Congress in February, Sony Xperia X signalled the beginning of a new high-end slate from the Japanese multinational conglomerate. The X series replaced the former premium line called Z series. Among its competitors, Samsung Galaxy S7, launched in March, is the most note-worthy, as reported by Phone Arena. Packed with the same premium features and with similar size, let's see which one is better.
Design
When put side-by-side and back-to-back each other, it is easy to see that Sony Xperia X and Samsung Galaxy S7 share the same size - length and width. They also have similar weight.
In terms of elegance, both have smooth and stylish look. While Xperia X has clear and smooth front screen and a durable back made of metal, Galaxy S7 features a back and front frame made of metal and glass. The minor nuisance in S7's mirror-like design is that it easily catches fingerprints.
Sony's new handset's design failed in terms of buttons. The place of the volume button at the bottom is both awkward and mushy as compared to Samsung's easy to reach buttons.
With special design features, Galaxy S7 has two vital items - the fingerprint scanner and the waterproofing, while Xperia X don't have both.
Display
By looking at Sony Xperia X's 5-inch LCD screen with 1080 x 1920 pixels and Samsung Galaxy S7's 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display also with 1080 x 1920 pixels, one can affirm the two have the same display quality. Both are sharp and clear, but it is another story when it comes to the two premium phones' color.
The high-end phone from Japan-based firm offers two color modes but that does not mean its color treatment is better than the device from the Korea-based company. It is evident that Galaxy S7's screen colors are more balanced compared to Xperia X's.
And again, Samsung's very own has another bonus feature that Sony lacked. It's the Always-on option which shows its users time and phone notifications.
Interface
While both premium handsets provide customizable Android interfaces, it is important to note that Sony Xperia X offers simple, light and fast interface while Samsung Galaxy S7 offers a longer list of customization options.
Performance and Memory
Equipped with latest and fastest Snapdragon 820 SoC and 4GB RAM, Samsung's premium phone clearly wins against Sony Xperia X, which is equipped with Snapdragon 650 chip and 3GB RAM.
On the other hand, Sony Xperia X and Samsung Galaxy S7 share the same 32GB internal storage.
Camera
Xperia X has the upper hand in terms of camera specs as it is packed with 23MP rear and 13MP front shooter, as compared to Galaxy S7's 12MP back and 5MP selfie shutter; however, in terms of shooting experience, Samsung's fast shutter and auto-rotate function proved better than Sony.
Battery Life
The 3000 mAh cell of Samsung Galaxy S7 has longer life compared to 2,620 mAh battery capacity of Sony Xperia X. The premium phone from the Korean company also recharge faster that the high-end device from the Japanese's firm.
Conclusion
Sony Xperia X is packed with one of the best camera but Samsung Galaxy S7 clearly wins in almost all of their face-off categories.
