On July 9 and 10, Taeyeon staged her first solo concert series "Butterfly Kiss" at Olympic Park, east of Seoul. Around 6,000 fans from all over Asia attended the two-day concert series where she performed 22 songs including two solo EPs, TV commercials, TV series and remakes of Girls' Generation's hit music.
According to Yonhap News, Taeyeon's successful concert has set the standard among female idol singers. "Butterfly Kiss" has become South Korea's first solo concert performed by a single member of an active girl group despite doubts among South Korean marketers who deemed that solo concerts by a single girl group member unprofitable.
Yonhap News added that such mindset was caused by a "market stigma" where male fans were less likely to go to concerts and would rather prefer watching of EPs and music videos in contrast to female fans.
In spite of being in a well-known girl group, Taeyeon, who first gained popularity as member and "kid leader" with powerful vocals of S.M. Entertainment's 8-member girl group Girls' Generation also known as SNSD, performed in Olympic Hall, a smaller venue compared to Gymnastic Stadium also located in the same park.
In a report by The Korea Herald, Taeyeon's first solo concert had a powerful start. She kicked off her performance with three dance tracks from her new album namely, "Up & Down," "Good Thing," and "Fashion". Taeyeon also sang her pop-rock ballads "Rain," "Gemini," "Farewell" and "If", the hit soundtrack in the 2008 Korean TV drama "Hong Gil-dong". Moreover, music producer and singer Dean also joined her on stage to perform "Starlight", another single from Taeyeon's new album.
During the concert, she announced that her latest song and second album's title track "Why" had won in SBS' "Inkigayo". Two of her songs topped the music program. "Why" placed first, followed by SISTAR's "I Like That" and "Starlight", her track featuring DEAN, ranked third in "Inkigayo," Soompi has learned.
In between her performances, Taeyeon spoke to her audience and addressed her fans in different languages. She greeted them in English as well as in Japanese since her concert was also aired live in Japan.
