Many people begin with physical attraction when looking for a date. Given that criterion, good-looking men and women stand a good chance of finding a date which eventually would develop into a relationship.
However, a growing number of university students in China say they seek intellectual persons for a relationship, looks are not that important for them. They call themselves sapiosexuals, first used in 2014 in dating app OKCupid as an extra option for members to describe themselves.
Global Times reported the university students use the term so their parents would not worry that is they date someone during their university days, the relationship would not destroy them since the two would spend most of the time nurturing their brains.
As proof of its growing acceptance, Facebook has a sapiosexual community with more than 56,000 likes.
The Debrief noted that sapiosexuals find brains more attractive than beauty. They also do not worry about the gender of their lover, do not make a fuss about the private parts of their partner. Rather, it is “high-quality” grey matter which gets sapiosexuals hots.
It has become a popular hashtag on Twitter and Tinder blurbs. However, some people find sapiosexuals to be snooty and braggy.
