Seen as a formidable contender against Apple's MacBook Pro and iPad Pro lineup, Microsoft's highly-anticipated 2-in-1 tablet-laptop Surface Pro 5 is hinted to be released in March 2017, while the company plans to equip Intel's Kaby Lake processor into its specs.
Earlier, Intel's Navin Shenoy confirmed on a statement the induction of the Kaby Lake processor, the first to use its new three-phase development process and based on an optimised Skylake microarchitecture.
"Two new products will be coming from Intel later this year. Apollo Lake for the value and entry-level PC, 2-in-1, and tablet, and the 7th Generation Core, formally codenamed Kaby Lake, will be coming later this year. We have over 400 designs coming to market on the Seventh Gen Core, and you can expect lots of innovations from our OEM partners bringing this product to market," said Intel's Navin Shenoy during the company's Computex keynote speech.
However, the Kaby Lake processor will not be ready until the end of this year, and therefore, it cannot be shipped to the Surface team until then, which further supports the rumors for delay of Surface Pro 5, YIBADA reported.
Aside from the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 sporting the new Kaby Lake chipset, it will also be powered by 4K display panel in order to provide a tough competition to the Apple device like MacBook Pro 2016 and iPad Pro.
The Kaby Lake chipset is expected to consist of a 14-nm manufacturing process, which will provide the Surface Pro 5 users with 40 percent enhanced performance and excellent cooling technology as compared to the earlier installment.
Based on reports, the said Intel chipset will also yield 20-30 percent better graphics performance with HD Graphics 620, compared to NVIDIA's dedicated GPU for laptop, the GeForce 920 M. This will be a great deal of improvement for users, who savvy devices perfect for gaming.
According to Digital Trends, the Kaby Lake processor will also aid the device's battery efficiency, giving the user more time to enjoy multiple applications running on the device. The Surface Pro 5 will also come with 16GB of RAM, which is more than enough for standard users. Its cameras are rumored to come with 8 MP (front) and 16 MP (rear) resolutions, and it will be equipped with a USB-C support, which will also be possible with the Kaby Lake, since it is optimized for low power consumption.
However, there is no official confirmation given by the Redmond-based technology giant regarding the said release. So the release date rumors are still subject to change until the said unveiling in October.
