Benedict Cumberbatch has cleared up the rumors that claim "Sherlock" Season 4 will be the last one ever but there is still a catch.
In an interview, earlier with GQ, Cumberbatch said that ending "Sherlock" would feel like an end of an era. He also added that the idea of not playing the genius detective is galling which led to many thinking that he just hinted at the end of the "Sherlock" TV series.
The Marvel's "Dr. Strange" star is now clearing up what he said as media seems to have distorted his statements. Cumberbatch said that "Sherlock" Season 4 will be the last one for now but not the last one ever, iTech Post has learned.
It was not entirely Cumberbatch's fault considering that Steven Moffat, co-creator of "Sherlock," himself said earlier that they do not know how long they can keep the show up. Both Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are busy with their new roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and it proved to be a hard task to complete "Sherlock" Season 4 altogether.
Cumberbatch said in an interview with AP that they love doing the show. His statements could mean that the show will be on another long hiatus which is nothing new considering that it takes several years before a new season is aired, Metro reported.
"We love doing the show and all I'll say about it is that we're all very busy, we're all doing other things now and you'll have to see the fourth season to realise why, for now, it's not going to happen again at the same regularity that it has been happening. But we'll see, we'll never say never and when it's right, if it's right, we'll do more," said Cumberbatch.
Future seasons of "Sherlock" have not been ordered by the networks but Moffat said that the plot could possible lead to a "Sherlock" Season 5 renewal if time and resources permit. The "Sherlock" Season 4 release date has not yet been revealed but it is expected to be aired around 2017 after the "Dr. Strange" film starring Cumberbatch rolls into theaters on November 2016.
