As fans eagerly anticipate the next episode of tvN's "Goblin," the internet world is buzzing with spoilers. Lee Dong Wook, who plays an amnesiac grim reaper in the show, will sport a new look in the upcoming 11th episode.
The 10th episode of the tvN drama, which aired on Dec. 31, 2016, uncovered the shocking connection between the Grim Reaper, Kim Shin (Gong Yoo) and Sunny (Yoo In Na). The latter is said to be the reincarnation of Kim Shin's younger sister Kim Sun (Kim So Hyun).
The Grim Reaper, on the other hand, is the reincarnation of King Wang Yeo (Kim Min Jae) who ousted Kim Shin and sentenced his family to death out of jealousy. The said episode ended with a scene showing the former dressed in a traditional Goryeo robe.
On Jan. 04, Wednesday, tvN has finally shed some light on the matter when they released additional photos for the fantasy-romance drama's 11th episode. The photos, which was obtained by Soompi, gave fans a glimpse of Lee as King Wang Yeo.
"With Lee Dong Wook playing both the king and the grim reaper, he is continuously working hard and is doing an in-depth study on how to play two characters with different emotions," the production team said. "The upcoming episode will actively be showing the Goryeo king's past story."
Lee, who gained widespread fame after starring in 2005's "My Girl," had worked hard to secure the Grim Reaper role. He was rejected many times by screenwriter Kim Eun Sok on the grounds that he did not fit the character's image she had in mind, according to Korean newsoutlet Daily Economy, as cited by All Kpop.
However, Lee was so smitten with the character to give up. With the help of his agency, he was able to have a one-on-one discussion with the writer and persuaded her by showing his avid interest in the said role.
Following "Goblin's" popularity, the show's original soundtrack "Beautiful" is also charting high in various music streaming sites. It recently nabbed the top spot on Olleh Music, Naver Music, Mnet, Genie, Melon, Monkey 3 and Bugs.
