Nintendo has another trick up their sleeve as it released the new "Pokémon Duel" mobile game on Android and iOS. The new title is entirely different from Niantic's sleeper hit "Pokémon GO."
When "Pokémon GO" was released, millions of people downloaded the title and flocked the streets looking for monsters. Unfortunately, the heat has died down and the daily player count dwindled. The company now has a new game called "Pokémon Duel" which can be misleading for mainstream players.
"Pokémon Duel" does not actually put players into the shoes of a Pokémon trainer as the whole game revolves around the forgotten table top figurine battles, Android Central reported. Instead of collecting Pokémon, players will collect figurines that they can use to battle with others through a chess-like grid.
Another main difference between "Pokémon Duel" and "Pokémon GO" is that the former can be played right at home without the need for a bot or complicated hacks. Players will be able to search for opponents but they would have to wait considering that the game might not have a huge fan base at the moment.
Interestingly, Niantic was not the one who developed the game. Nintendo's the Pokémon Company made the game since it did not need geo-location features.
"This is a mobile strategy game where players deploy digital Pokémon figures, making strategic moves and setting figures against each other in battle as they try to reach the goal in their opponent's territory," said The Pokémon company in a statement obtained by the Telegraph.
There is a story mode available for players looking for a linear experience. Similar to the earlier Pokémon games, the player will also have a rival that they meet early on.
"Pokémon Duel" can be downloaded by both Android and iOS users. The game is also expected to be released for the Nintendo Switch in the following months.
