Obsidian has debunked "Fallout New Vegas 2" rumors after a fake news article spread online. The rumored game was supposed to be a follow up to one of Bethesda's most-loved titles in the franchise.
"Fallout New Vegas 2" release date and leak rumors spread throughout the internet thanks to a site that puts out fake news to gain ad revenue. The claims actually made sense at the time considering that Bethesda's the next title for "Fallout 4" would be another expansion following the company's pattern.
Unfortunately, none of the rumors are actually true. Obsidian PR manager Mikey Dowling has sent an email to Kotaku saying that they are not actually making "Fallout New Vegas 2" and they have no plans to do so. The company did say that they are excited to play the game if it does exist.
"We've said plenty of times that we'd love to work on a Fallout again if Bethesda wanted us to, we just aren't at this time," wrote Dowling. "Right now we're very focused on the Fig campaign to make our first ever sequel in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire. Whenever a new Fallout comes around though, whoever is doing it, we all look forward to playing it!"
Bethesda has not commented on the issue and they may still try to release a "Fallout New Vegas 2" title but it may take time. They are currently busy with releasing the "Fallout 4" high resolution texture pack which paved the way for the AMD RX 490 leak.
"Fallout New Vegas" mods can still make players want to re-play the game again, Heavy reported. The modding community of the game is still very much alive despite the actual game being released several years back.
Obsidian's statement regarding "Fallout New Vegas 2" effectively kills the rumors. Users will just need to wait for Bethesda's official announcement regarding the new game.
