In an intriguing discussion, Whoopi Goldberg got some legal education making her change her take on Bill Cosby. Speaking with ABC News legal analyst Dan Abrams, "The View" host discovered that she has no idea that Cosby could not be jailed.
Speaking on the "The View" on July 14, Tuesday, Goldberg insisted that if that matter was to be subjected to the opinion of the public, everything could suggest guilt. It was not until she had a detailed conversation with Abrams that she realized that Cosby, whose allegations run from the 1960s through to the 2000s, could not be jailed.
During the show, Abrams outlined the details, enlightening Goldberg on the legal implications surrounding the allegations. The talk show panelist reversed her opinion after getting to understand the real legal position.
Terming Cosby as a serial rapist, Goldberg explained that prior to meeting Abrams, she thought there was all the information necessary to have him jailed. She said, "I have to say, I thought, 'Yeah, here's all the information, take his a-- to jail.'"
"I find out that's not possible," Goldberg said. "So I can't say anymore, 'Innocent until proven guilty,' because there's no way to prove it. We're the only proof that folks have. We're the only backup they have."
At the end of the show, Goldberg changed her stance on the Cosby issue with Abrams telling her that the only court that could try him was the public opinion court. Cosby is accused of having abused more than 25 women over a 40-year period.
