Responding to the speculations that "Xena: Warrior Princess" is likely to return to television, Lucy Lawless recently declared on Twitter that the reports of possible reboot is just a rumor. The "Salem" actress famously played Xena in the hit TV series.
"Sorry, friends! news of a #Xena reboot is just a rumor. I'd love it to happen one day but it's still in the wishful thinking stage," tweeted the 47-year-old actress, who once gained a worldwide popularity as an outstandingly fierce fighter with an evil reputation after the successful run of the show.
Despite the clear message from the actress, fans of the show are still hopeful that a reboot is in making.
Earlier, it was reported that NBC and NBC Universal International are planning to revive the show. The project is still in early development stage and they are reportedly looking for writers who can create a reboot of the hit series, The Hollywood Reporter stated.
Original executive producers Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi are said to be already on-board. The reboot is reportedly a modern version of the hit series, in which the warrior princess will be seen in altogether new look, IGN reported. The beloved show ran in syndication from 1995 to 2001.
It is also hinted that NBC is looking for a new face to play the role of Xena. Insiders claimed that the new Xena will be the blend of Lawless's charisma and "Hunger Games" character Katniss's smartness.
The drama is expected to hit the small screen in 2016. Since Xena was shown dead in the series finale episode, the writer will have to devise a way to bring back the fighter. Fans are also hoping that new Xena will a long lost daughter of the dead warrior princess.
