Returning on The CW on Oct. 6, "The Flash" season 2 will introduce a new character to be played by "The Messengers" alum Shantel VanSanten. The character, Patty Spivot, is the love interest and long-time ally of Barry Allen/Flash (Grant Gustin).
Patty Spivot is a blood analyst who works with Barry Allen in the Central City Crime Lab in the comics. However, in "The Flash" season 2, the character to be played by VanSanten will replace the deceased Eddie Thawne (Rick Cosnett) as the new partner of Detective Joe West (Jesse L. Martin), according to Comic Book.
In "The Flash" season 2, Patty Spivot will join Golden Age Flash Jay Garrick (Teddy Sears), who is from DC Comics' alternate universe Earth 2. Jay Garrick was the first hero to use the Flash title.
Meanwhile, at the recent Comic-Con, "The Flash" executive producers also announced that the first Kid Flash and the third Flash Wally West will make his debut at some point in "The Flash" season 2. However, the actor who will play the character is yet to be cast, according to Variety.
Before joining "The Flash" season 2 as Patty Spivot, VanSanten played Jessica Chapel in "Gang Related." She also appeared in "The Night Shift" season 2 episode 3 titled "Eyes Look Your Last," which aired on March 9.
In The CW series "The Messengers," which was cancelled on May 7, VanSanten played a struggling radio-astronomer named Vera Buckley who is searching for her missing son who was kidnapped seven years earlier.
