Lead actors Paul Rudd and Michael Douglas turned in great performances in "Ant-Man," creating major buzz that they may be paired off again in a sequel. While it may be too early for Marvel Studios to officially include "Ant-Man 2" in its film schedule , fans and critics are pinning hopes that the Rudd-and-Douglas tandem will pan out for the next instalment.
"Ant-Man" had just about all the ingredients of a contemporary superhero flick - action, hilarity, and drama intertwined with the personal lives of the central characters, all delivered by seasoned actors and actresses.
Among the main actors, Michael Douglas reaffirmed his versatility and bankability with his portrayal of the brilliant scientist with a multi-layered personality, Dr. Hank Pym. Rave reviews from fans and critics for Douglas as Dr. Pym underscore that Marvel did not go wrong in its casting decision.
In fact, even as "Ant-Man" continues to attract moviegoers to cinemas across the world, some fans have already clamoured for Douglas to be brought back into the Marvel cinematic universe. Douglas himself has stated that he enjoyed the ride and has not closed the door on other things Marvel may have in store for his character Pym.
The Academy Award-winning actor said he learned a lot, and "would look forward to more." Douglas added that while he was happy setting the expository tone for "Ant-Man," he hopes that the next movie will not leave out Dr. Pym from the gleeful albeit bizarre scenarios, Cinema Blend reported.
The 70-year-old actor, who has had decades of experience playing mostly psychological-type husband and father roles, considered his "Ant-Man" role a welcome change. Douglas and Rudd's alter egos bonded well; the two actors displayed acting chops and hit the right nerve with audiences, important things that augur for a great sequel, TIME reported.
To date, Catherine Zeta-Jones' other half has not signed up for another superhero flick, and has also dismissed as rumor the news that his wife may play the role of Wasp.
