Upon release, the LG G4 had Android 5.1 Lollipop preinstalled. It also had a number of bug fixes released over the weeks. However, the handset has not got the Android update even though the update has been out for awhile. In addition, the LG G2 and LG G3 have yet to get Android 5.1.1.

At present, there are two opposing camps. The first party believes that LG will release the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for all three flagships later in 2015. On the other hand, the second party thinks that LG will skip Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for Android M instead.

Earlier, LG did pass over other updates such as Android 4.4.4 KitKat and Android 4.4.3 KitKat. Contrastingly, South Korea-based Samsung has hardly skipped over important Android updates. LG will need to roll out an Android update in the fall if it wants to keep a competitive edge.

While the LG G3 and LG G4 will surely enjoy Android updates for some time, the LG G2 runs the risk of having no support in the coming times. It is not clear whether the electronics maker plans to update the LG G2 to Android M or Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. However, rumors suggest that the company will keep supporting the LG G2 for a while longer. According to a GSMArena report, the G2 will get the Android 5.1.1 update in the coming times.

The Android M developer preview is available now. But users will require to wait for a while before the Android update is ready for mass consumption. Also, the search giant Google has not officially declared when Android M will be rolling out. According to AndroidPit, the final version of Android M will be launched in the month of October.
