Qualcomm Technologies Inc. has recently launched system-on-chip (SoC) Snapdragon Wear 2100, which has the potential of being used in LG smartwatches.

Snapdragon Wear 2100 is the first wearable design in the new product family that will bring enhanced and innovative experience to its users. The Snapdragon Wear 2100 SoC is a part of the new Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear platform that is set to be used in the next generation wearables.

The Senior Vice President of Product Management Raj Talluri mentioned that the Snapdragon Wear 2100 SoC is 30 percent thinner than the latest models out in the market. Snapdragon Wear 2100 chipset is created to set the trend in having thinner, sleeker and perhaps smaller versions of smartwatches in the coming years, according to Ecumenical News. Apart from sleeker and smaller in appearance, Snapdragon Wear Platform has lower power, smarter sensors and is always connected with the integrated GNSS next generation LTE modem.

LG and Qualcomm have been working together on other innovations and products that are already out in the market. Their partnership in wearable technology started two years ago, and has introduced several smart and kid watches. As stated by LG Wearable's Vice President David Yoon, Qualcomm has plans of tying up with LG in launching the latter's latest innovation. Yoon is delighted to hear that Qualcomm is looking to extend their affiliation with plans of launching Snapdragon Wear 2100 chipset with them.

Apart from the Snapdragon Wear 2100 SoC, there would also be several latest wearable smartwatches to be launched by QualComm within 2016. Snapdragon Wear 2100 chipset is using quad-core Cortex-A7 CPU with 1.2 GHz, which uses 640x480 pixels up to 60Hz. This latest chipset has NFC and GPS with Quick Charge 2.0 capabilities.

The Snapdragon Wear 2100 will be released in two versions. One of which is the connected Full 2G/3G/LTE mobile connectivity, and the other is the tethered Bluetooth/WiFi only connectivity, GSM Arena reported.

The Snapdragon Wear 2100 SoC is more proficient than the Snapdragon 400 processor. The efficiency of the Snapdragon Wear 2100 make this smartwatch last longer than a day, even if it is only charged once. Snapdragon 400 process has dominated the wearable market for quite some time, but Snapdragon Wear 2100 might passed the latter's record.
